Our next meeting is a time to celebrate the end of a very successful year! An absolutely glorious day was had yesterday at the Craft & Curio market at OSP @oldstpaulsnz ! Only 1 more week till our opening night! Join us for the festivities! This colourfully embroidered brick is not only aesthetically pleasing but wonderfully put to use as a doorstop! Showing a huge array of techniques, styles and colour this brick has much to admire about it. Thank you Helen for creating and sharing with us this creative work! This cleanly designed ‘Mackintosh Rose’ by @peppermint.purple was stitched by Marie. A lovely show of a geometric cross stitch rose with a highly detailed blackwork grid sampler background. Wonderful use of a limited colour palette. Our opening night is only 2 weeks away! Join us for the festivities! Back when Els @or.else.embroidery was a new member in early 2023 she brought this very cool piece to our monthly meeting! The racquet was a thoughtful gift for a family member and the mindful stitching on the racket would have been such good practice for French knots. Also crafty use of wool scraps from a knitting co-worker. We love to see sustainability efforts and recycling practices in craft! Barry is legendary in our guild for his intricate and miniature works, he crafted this rug to fit perfectly in a dolls house (swipe through to see!). It's incredible to see him work stitch by stitch at such a small scale. Each stitch being far smaller than a millimeter, it slowly and carefully builds into a fine work of art.  Sarah's exciting take on the Caswell Quilt, designed by Corliss Searcey, uses felt to embellish a secondhand wool blanket. With lots of hand stitched techniques this colourful quilt will be the star of any room it's in. These strawberries, by Mary, make for a lovely decoration. Using stumpwork to craft the leaves and bold red stitching to complete the illusion, they look good enough to eat! Join us for our opening night festivities! Amazing colourful process on our appliqué Tivaevae community quilt at tonights monthly meeting! Inspired by the Māori myth of Rona and the Moon, this lush cape showcasing iconic native New Zealand plants was stitched by Cathrine @lloydcathrine for an exhibition called ‘The Disappearing Woman’ hosted by @aratoimuseum in 2021. Join us for our opening night festivities! The guild first saw this piece of Joan's at our meeting back in December 2020. This notebook cover uses a not very often seen style of embroidery, Reticella, a style of cutwork lace or embroidery where you use stitches to secure fabric in intricate ways and then cut away some of it to reveal windows through the garment or accessory, this style originates from the 15th century and was popular for the nobility to wear it in their adorned collars and cuffs. Joan, here uses it to decorate a precious notebook. With our latest ANZEG conference collaborative project for 2026 underway it's time for a throwback to our River themed project submission from 2018! Where we won the Viewers’ Choice Award amongst stiff competition. This scissor sheath and matching pinwheel delicately embroidered and monogrammed by Mary are a joy to see. Design taken from Carolyn Pearce’s new edition of Home Sweet Home. These charming dorset buttons were stitched by a member of our guild. Inspired by bouquets and trees, these fairytale-like buttons are almost too pretty to use! Philippa created this immense and intricate quilt, made of patches of daily stitches created every day of her 60th year. Fittingly titled ‘60th Turn Around the Sun’, it’s a stunning example of how innovative you can be with a small colour palette and a lot of determination. Some close ups and works in progress from our Tivaevae pillow making workshop this past weekend. Using large appliqué flower motifs, variegated threads and bold visible stitching techniques to create an impressive finished cushion! If you've enjoyed seeing our pictures from the last few days and would like to craft along with others, we have some lovely monthly stitching groups based in Johnsonville, Seatoun @seatounvillagehall and Thorndon @katherinemansfieldhouse. Kawandi handstitched quilts workshop from today, with the quilting queen @wendysquiltsandmore! The classroom looked bright and the pieces so bold and lovely! That's a wrap on our Jogakbo Bojagi workshop! (Pun intended) Ei Katu workshop this Saturday morning! Beautiful colours, textures and company! ‘Assisi Rabbits’ kit intricately stitched by Marie and designed by Catherine Blanch of Designatus Design @crewelgobelin. This variegated blackwork autumnal leaf was stitched by Marie for one of our ‘WE LOVE TO STITCH’ banners - circa 2020! This lockdown throwback uses a wide variety of blackwork stitches, cross stitch and a knotted chain stitch to create the leaf shape needed. Bronwyn's colourful crewelwork tapestry is a classic tree of life design decorated with unique florals and a striking bird. Inspired by a family heirloom this detailed work measures an impressive one meter long. A time intensive labour of love indeed!
